Most researchers agree that music changes mood and promotes physiological health, but scientific research on the effect of music on our productivity is in its development stage. For example, scientists still disagree on whether all musical genres and types of sounds help focus on work.

Choose the music for the mood you want to keep while working. If you prefer silence and do not sit in an open space where you cannot get away from the noise, you do not need to change your habits, and you can listen to pleasant music even before work. Music without words increases productivity on repetitive tasks. This works best if the melody does not sound constantly but is played at intervals when attention weakens. In this case, the music will make the task less boring and invigorating.

When the brain is fully focused on the task, meditation music can help relieve stress a little. Popular music usually does not contribute to cognitive tasks and reading comprehension. If your job involves complex planning and problem-solving, scientists do not recommend listening to music hits in the background.

While the famous “Mozart Effect” does not promise an improvement in mental performance, research has shown that children who learn to play musical instruments or sing are better at spatial-temporal thinking.
